Basin Unemployment Slowly Trending Down

Unemployment numbers are slowly trending down in the Uintah Basin. According to this week’s unemployment update through the Department of Workforce Services, Duchesne County shifted from 9 percent to 8.8 percent unemployment. Uintah County also ticked down from 9.7 percent to 9.5 percent unemployment. Daggett County remained at 5 percent. The state of Utah likewise lowered two-tenths of a percent to 3.7 percent unemployment. National unemployment remained at 4.9 percent. In Utah, 8 of the 10 private sector industry groups posted job increases in August compared to a year ago. The largest increases were seen in Trade, Transportation and Utilities with 8,600 jobs and Education and Health Services with 8,600 jobs. The fastest employment growth occurred in Financial Activities with a growth of 8.3 percent.
