Airport Project Delayed

The Vernal Regional Airport runway project is facing what is expected to be a temporary delay. According to Uintah Transportation Special Service District Chairman Duane Shepherd, the FAA is performing a review to ensure that wetlands affected by the project are handled properly. Last spring, the engineering agreement with GDA on the airport runway project was amended requiring that wetlands be expanded upon in the Jensen area to cover about 7 acres to make up for wetlands acreage affected by the project. “We have a finding of no significance here but the FAA still wants to review it,” explains Shepherd. “This is not a huge deal. It’s just making sure every ‘t’ is crossed and ‘i’ is dotted.” Shepherd says they expect crews to be back to work soon.
