Wildfire Report Shows Wildfires Down For 2022 But Keep Fire Sense Up
By Kristin Forbis, Jun 16, 2022
While it is good news that wildfires have been down so far in 2022 compared to the last few years, it’s actually more important than ever to keep fire sense up as hotter and drier conditions are on the way. Utah’s Fire Sense report shared that there have been 19 wildfires in the last week contributing to the 196 total wildfire starts in 2022. 163 of those were human caused. At this time in 2021 there was a total of 365 wildfires, 320 of which were human caused and at this time in 2020 there had been 398 wildfires, 277 of which were human caused. This week’s prevention tip is to always flood your campfire by drowning it with water and dirt. Mix the ash and embers with your shovel until it is completely extinguished and remember, if it is too hot to touch, it is too hot to leave.
