Keeping Your Home Cool While Temperatures Soar

Temperatures have been hitting some highs this month and everyone has been trying to stay cool. Rocky Mountain Power has some simple ways to tap into cooler home temperatures while reducing home energy. One idea is to check your settings. Set your thermostat to 78º or higher and use a smart thermostat to automatically adjust the temperature. Try to trap the cold in your house by minimizing afternoon indoor heat by closing blinds during the day, opening windows during cooler evening hours and using ceiling and portable fans to move cool air around. Take a look at how you clean your house. Set your water heater to 120º and use efficient showerheads. For clothes and dishes, run cleaning appliances at night, wash clothes in cold water, clean the dryer filter regularly and let clothes and dishes air dry. Finally, try unplugging when possible.
