DWR Recommends Some Family Friendly Fish Spots

Memorial Day weekend is known as a great day for families to get outside and enjoy the outdoors and the Division of Wildlife Resources has some recommendations for some family fishing opportunities. One recommendation is to target water bodies with good rainbow trout populations. Big Sand Wash Reservoir in Duchesne County and community ponds across Utah have recently been stocked by Utah’s DWR. Rainbow trout can be caught with a wide variety of baits and lures and are easy to catch from shore. Individuals can have good success fishing for rainbow trout using PowerBait about 18–24 inches below a bobber. Another good option is bluegill which can be found at Pelican Lake and Steinaker Reservoir in Uintah County. Success can be found using PowerBait again but use a smaller hook as bluegill have little mouths.
