Fall Prescribed Burning Plans For Flaming Gorge Ranger District
By Kristin Forbis, Sep 16, 2021
Prescribed burns are scheduled on the Flaming Gorge Ranger District between October and December 2021, however there are currently numerous fires across the Western United States and resources are stretched thin. Officials want the public to know that Ashley National Forest will NOT implement any burns until the following conditions are met. 1. National fire activity has decreased. 2. Adequate resources are available to staff the burn and stand by for contingency needs. And 3. Fuel and weather conditions have moved out of critical conditions. Prescribed fires only occur when a specific set of conditions are met. These conditions include air, vegetation moisture levels, temperatures, wind directions and speeds, smoke dispersal, and expected fire behavior. Fire personnel will ignite the fires using a helicopter and/or hand lighting. Engines, hotshots, and/or hand crews will monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished. Smoke may be visible. Prescribed burning is expected to cause minimal impacts to areas or activities outside of the burn units.
