How you feel about a landscape, a room, or a person’s clothing has a lot to do with the color or color combinations. People who love red are extroverts, enthusiastic and impulsive. Red draws attention- we see red faster. Red is great in beds that people will be driving by. It looks fabulous against dark evergreens and dark walls, and blends well with white, yellow and grey. People who like yellow are intelligent, have great imaginations, tremendous drive for self fulfillment, and are true friends and confidants. Yellow also draws attention. Scientists tell us that we actually see red and yellow faster than other colors. Our eyes are drawn to displays of red and yellow, so they are excellent choices to put around a fountain or some other feature that you want to draw attention to. Houses that have yellow flowers actually sell fastest. On the other hand, if there is something in your yard you don’t want people to look at, plant bright yellow flowers opposite that area to draw attention away. Yellow combines well with red and blue. Many people love yellow and blue combinations. Pink is a peaceful, calming color. People are less likely to argue when there is a lot of pink, so this is a good color choice around conversation areas such as patios. Pink gives the impression of fragrance, and people will try to smell pink flowers even when there is no fragrance at all. Pink blends with blues, grays and yellow, but it clashes with orange. People who like pink are charming and warm and have a wealth of personality. White is simple, innocent, crisp and clean. If you are the type of person that likes things neat, tidy, and precise, white is your color. Crisp flower beds or border plantings of white will give your garden a well-planned and orderly look. But too much white is hard on the eyes, so include other colors as well. White is also the last color to fade as darkness falls, so it’s good for areas you want to look at in the evening or for bordering pathways so you can easily find your way as it gets dark. White also looks spectacular against dark evergreens or dark walls. People who like blue are sensitive, conservative, and introspective. They weigh options and are cautious when taking action. Blue is cool and relaxing. When there is a lot of blue, we feel cooler and more calm. Use blue to create a feeling of coolness even in a full sun location. Even if it is 95 degrees, you’ll feel cooler in the blue area of your garden. Blue is easy to blend with pinks, yellows, and white, but gets lost against dark evergreens and dark walls.
